Accessibility Statement
The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser is committed to ensuring that the I-STEM portal is accessible to all users, including persons with disabilities.
Standards
This portal is being built to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA and the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW) 3.0.
Accessibility features
- Semantic HTML landmarks (header, nav, main, footer) and a single H1 per page
- Full keyboard operability — including the slot picker, which uses real buttons
- Visible focus indicators on all interactive controls
- Adjustable text size (A- / A / A+) and a high-contrast mode
- Bilingual interface (English and हिंदी) with the document language attribute updated on switch
- Descriptive alt text for the QR code and ARIA labels on icon-only buttons
- Labels associated with every form input and live-region announcements for results
- Skip-to-main-content link for screen-reader and keyboard users
- Colour palette meeting WCAG 2.1 AA contrast for body text
- Responsive, mobile-first layout that reflows down to small viewports
Screen Reader Access
This portal has been tested for use with common screen readers. The information and services are designed to be navigable using assistive technologies such as NVDA, JAWS and VoiceOver. The recommended shortcut keys follow standard browser and screen-reader conventions.
